Spa review: Cleopatra's Spa

Cleopatra's Spa at Wafi is the largest day spa in the UAE and following on from the success of past years, has once again introduced its Dubai Summer Surprises deals. Running until August 22 there are a variety of treatment packages tailored for men and women. This week, we tried the Ultimate Hydration package, which costs Dh900 for 150 minutes plus dinner and a session in the dream room. Call 04 324 000.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Cleopatra's Spa looks deceptively small from the outside but once inside there are acres of corridors and treatment rooms. The changing area offers a relaxing introduction to your spa session thanks to the soft lighting on the walls.

ULTIMATE RELAXATION

The three-tier treatment combined an exfoliating scrub with a massage and facial. First came the exfoliation where I chose a Thai lemongrass scrub which was mixed with coconut milk and worked into my skin. I was pleased to jump in the shower afterwards as the drying milk made my skin feel cold and quite sticky. An all-over Balinese massage followed with the therapist using her thumbs to knead my tired muscles, aching from a very long week at work. The final element was an invigorating facial, designed to revitalise my face and make my skin look younger. I may not have wrinkles yet, but my skin certainly looked and felt fresher. After two-and-a-half hours of non-stop pampering, I was ready to leave but it was just the trick to get me prepared for the weekend and a trip to the mall to bag some DSS bargains.

ADDED EXTRAS

As part of the DSS Spa Package, a meal and access to the dream room is also included. Guests can choose from a small selection of meals, but I found the presentation of the food disappointing. It arrived wrapped in cling film, reminding me of canteen food. With a number of restaurants in the pyramid complex I was hoping for something slightly better. The dream room, meanwhile, gives guests the chance to relax – and maybe nap – for 30 minutes post treatment which is just what the body needs after such a soothing process.

WORTH A RETURN?

Cleopatra's is very different to other spas I have visited in Dubai, but this is probably down to the sheer size of it. But while it does not have the same intimate setting, the massage and facial were spot on. I was happy to overlook the impersonal feel for the high quality of treatment on offer.
