Serena Williams has come to the rescue of full-figured women everywhere. The four-time Wimbledon champ, who is often slated for her fashion sense, says it took her a long time to come to terms with her “super curvy” body and “massive butt”.

The 28-year-old tells the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar: “Since I don't look like every other girl, it takes a while to be okay with that. To be different. But different is good.” She says she was 23 when she realised she wasn't like her leggy sister Venus, who she idolised when they were growing up. “She's totally different. I'm super curvy,” says Serena. “She's tall and she's like a model and she fits everything.”

Williams, who has won 26 Grand Slam titles, has slimmed down considerably in recent months, going from a size 12 to a size 10. Harper’s calls her The Queen of Lean. After she won the Australian Open in January, "I wanted to get really fit. I wanted to lose some weight. So I've been doing Pilates and yoga, trying to lean out my body so I won’t be bulky," she told the magazine, describing her fitness regimen as pilates two or three times a wee, plus running instead of driving when in Los Angeles.

When training, she says, it’s “a couple of hours of hitting, then an hour or two of cardio and strengthening in the gym.”

But she doesn’t diet. “I don't even know the D word,” she says with a laugh.

While she does stick to a training eating plan – featuring, what else? Smaller portions! – she says she can never turn down a good piece of cherry pie. “But all I know is that in ten years, I don't want to be as wide as this couch.”
