With 2009 well under way car manufacturers have turned their attentions to new models for the next 12 months. Some are already on the road, while others will be here in the coming weeks and months. Here are three of our favourites to grace the roads this year.

Toyota Sequoia

The Japanese manufacturer has launched its biggest SUV in the UAE.

Named after one of the largest trees in the world, the Sequoia can seat eight people and is longer and wider than any other car in its class. With a 5.7litre V8 engine, it is available in three models priced between Dh149,000 and Dh215,000. The latter comes with a DVD player and other added extras.

BMW Z4

BMW's two-seater hardtop convertible made its debut at the year's Detroit Motor Show and will reach the UAE in April.

The second generation model has had an overhaul both inside and out. It is longer and wider than the previous design and is the first BMW to use iDrive – allowing the passenger to control the climate, radio, etc.

Volkswagen Golf

Into its sixth generation, the VW Golf continues to attract the motoring fraternity.

The latest edition was debuted at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and will launch in the UAE in the coming weeks. There is a choice of four petrol engines and the car has some options available for the first time, such as adaptive chassis control and park assist. POA
