Bollywood's Aamir Khan may have acted in multiple sports films – Dev Anand’s film Awwal Number where he played a cricketer, Mansoor Khan’s Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander where he played a cyclist, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan where he played a cricketer again and Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal where he was seen as a wrestler, but the actor has never been seen playing tennis on screen.
While Aamir has been seen playing tennis off screen also playing an exhibition match along with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, he still has an unfulfilled dream – playing tennis for India.
Aamir was known as Aamir Hussain in his school days and was a state level player then. He did score many aces then, but then he never aced his school marks.
“I had a dream of playing tennis which got stalled. I was into playing tennis as a kid. I was around 14 when I used to play well and then my school marks came and I was told that I am concentrating too much on tennis and not on my studies. My father (Nasir Hussain) told my mother, ‘Zeenat, we should stop his tennis.’ My tennis stopped, but my school marks didn’t change much,” admits Aamir.
