Young actress Kim Chiu, who was recently in the spotlight over her controversial love life, had spent years looking for her mother, only to see her comatose and die in a hospital days later.

Her mom Louella, who was laid to rest on Saturday at a memorial park in the central Philippine city of Cebu, died of aneurysm on June 23 after falling into a coma six days before.

“Once you are okay, I will bring you to Manila and stay in my house,” Chiu, 23, reportedly told her mother when she was taking care of her in the hospital. “You will take care of me there. So get well soon.”

It was around the third week of June when someone called up Chiu to inform her about her mother, who had separated from her husband, William Chiu Jr, when the actress was still a baby.

Louella later on was unable to walk after she developed a debilitating illness in her legs and knees. The people who were taking care of Louella, who had told them not to contact her family, informed Chiu about her mother, who was due for operation, when she became comatose.

“She would arrive early dawn and return to Manila in the morning for work and back again here in Cebu,” William told journalists on June 27. (Cebu City is around 45 minutes by aeroplane from Manila.)

He added that his daughter, whom he had had a misunderstanding for five years over family issues, would take care of her mother, who was then at the intensive care unit, and begged her to be strong, get well and live for her family.

In the more recent weeks, Chiu had been in the papers following her supposed tiff with former best friend and confidante Majah Salvador, who had secretly started a romantic relationship with her former boyfriend, the dashing heartthrob Gerald Anderson.

Chiu and Salvador have not been on speaking terms since, but had to work together in some projects.

Chiu, a Chinese-Filipino, had lived in Cebu City before moving to Manila for the ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ in 2006. She was the first winner of ‘Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition’ and is now a contract artist with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic.

Her father said Chiu was devastated that the last days she spent with her mother was at the hospital, but added that she has been trying to stay strong for the family, her fans and for all the people who support her.

Last Wednesday, Chiu and her elder sister Lakam left for Thailand, where the actress had to shoot a commercial in accordance with a contract she signed two years ago, and returned on early Saturday in time for the funeral.
