ADFF: Must-watch movies of the day

With three days behind us, the ongoing Abu Dhabi Film Festival, which concludes on October 22, has already proved a smash hit with fans and industry types. But the main course behind this 10-day long festival is a celebration of cinema. And this year's pickings are probably it's best yet.
Emirates 24|7 cuts through the list to bring you its top film picks of the day. Happy viewing.
SUNDAY, October 16
The Ages of Love
It’s not all death and destruction that brings substance to ADFF this year. We have a charming three-part romantic comedy that will reel you in through “The Ages of Love”.
Directed by Giovanni Veronesi and part of his beloved Manuale d’amore series, this particular film tells the stories of a young lawyer who strays from his fiancée when he meets a fiery free spirit; a model husband who has a one-night stand with a femme fatale; and an American scholar (Robert De Niro) who finds a new lease on life with a beautiful young woman (Monica Bellucci) in Rome.
The film promises Italian charm at its best.
Venue: Tonight at 6.15pm at the Abu Dhabi Theatre
The Moth Diaries
Finally, here’s a delicious horror movie to spook things up at ADFF.
Still coming to terms with the suicide of her beloved father, Rebecca eagerly returns to her all-girls boarding school – and her closest friend Lucy.
Soon, Lucy comes under the sway of Ernessa, the sinister new girl – and Rebecca gradually becomes convinced that Ernessa is not of this world.
With “The Moth Diaries”, director Mary Harron brings us a contemporary Gothic tale that provocatively explores the female coming-of-age experience.
Venue: Tonight at 9.30pm at the Abu Dhabi Theatre
She Monkeys
Distinctively wrought with graceful visuals, haunting rural settings, muted suspense and potent performances, Lisa Aschan’s debut is at once a coming-of-age psychodrama and modern gothic Western.
As two 15-year-old girls compete for a spot on the local equestrian acrobatics troupe, their friendship twists into a rivalry that reveals dark dimensions in their nascent personalities.
A winner at the Berlin and Tribeca film festivals, “She Monkeys” is a quiet film that loudly proclaims the arrival of a bold new filmmaker.
Venue: Tonight at 9.15pm at Vox Cinemas, Marina Mall; also on October 18 at 3.15pm, Vox Cinemas, Marina Mall
