Aishwarya Rai's lookalike and Ghai trying to recreate 'Taal' magic?

The new girl in Bollywood, Mishti, may not be a Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lookalike but director Subhash Ghai desperately wants her to look like one.

After finding gems like Meenakshi, Madhuri Dixit and Mahima Choudhury, Subhash Ghai picks Bengali debutante Mishti for his next movie 'Kaanchi'.

Apparently, the search for 'Kaanchi' has been a long and tough one. Ghai auditioned more than 240 girls for the role.

And finally for his village belle he settled down for Mishti.

Kaanchi is a story of the inner power of a woman who represents millions of suppressed youth against injustice in the country. It is also the story of an innocent rural beauty and her fight against power.

Kaanchi's Mishti reminds us of Subhash Ghai's 'Taal' mountain girl Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan).

Mishti's light eye, soft curls and the introductory song 'Kaanchi Re Kaanchi' creates reminiscence of Taal's Mansi played by Aishwarya.

AR Rahman's “Taal se Taal mila”, which is an Aishwarya number still remains one of the finest and memorable song crafted in Bollywood history and the title track, 'Kaanchi Re Kaanchi' (introducing Mishti) try to capture the same spirit.

After his four-year hiatus Ghai needs a hit under his belt.

So the light eyed (ditto Aishwarya) newcomer Mishti grabbed Ghai's attention and the showman seems to be recreating his 'Taal-Ash' magic with the newcomer.

Aishwarya looked ethereal and had a very sober and soft role in 'Taal'. Though she looks pained and tragic in most of the film, she does a good job of a woman who is very protective of her father and one who doesn’t think twice before rejecting a lover who has insulted her father.

Kaanchi's trailer shows glimpses of Mishti's innocence, portrays the earthiness of a village girl and in contrast fights against injustice.

Like Ash in 'Taal', Mishti goes for minimal make-up and still looks pretty. But strangely Ghai dresses up Kaanchi like Mansi from ‘Taal’.

The makers have released the movie's music and there is no doubt that Ghai is trying to recreate his 'Taal' magic with another mountain girl Mishti.
