Akshay to clash with SRK

The Darr (fear) about Shah Rukh Khan is over. There was a time when many actors and filmmakers were scared to release their film even around the dates when Shah Rukh”s film would release at the box office. But then that is now history.

Barring Shah Rukh Khan’s one film Fan which had a clean release with no biggie around it, all of Khan’s films in recent times have been pitted opposite big films and have suffered a terrible fate at the box office and not been living up to expectations.

Case in point being SRK’s last release Raees which was pitted against Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and did not rake in the shekels as expected Ditto with earlier films like Dilwale which clashed with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Bajirao Mastani, or even the YRF backed and Yash Chopra directed film Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

And now Akshay Kumar has dared to put his film Toilet Ek Prem Katha to clash with SRK’s upcoming film tentatively titled The Ring during the Indian Independence Day weekend of August 11, 2017.

Kumar’s last few films like Baby, Airlift, Rustom and Jolly LLB 2 have all been movies with a patriotic fervor and Kumar has chosen the Indian Republic Day and the Independence Day weekends to release his films.

Akshay had earlier planned to release his film Crack directed by Neeraj Pandey during this Independence Day, but then the film would not have been ready. Not one to let a good release day pass by, Akshay has now decided to put his Bhoomi Pednekar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha to release on the said date.

What Shah Rukh Khan does at this juncture, now remains to be seen.
