Angel, Jeorge win major FAMAS awards

Angel Locsin and Jeorge Estregan, who is Laguna Governor ER Ejercito in real-life, won the Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively at the 61

Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science (FAMAS) Awards, on Sunday night at the AFP Theatre, in Quezon City.

Locsin won for her role as a single mother willing to do everything for her ill son in ‘One More Try’ while Estregan, son of the late actor George Estregan, won for the ‘El Presidente’ (The President), where he plays as General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines.

This was Locsin’s second best-actress award for the critically acclaimed ‘One More Try’, directed by Ruel Bayani, where she also won in last month’s 29th annual celebration of Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards.

The Best Supporting Actress trophy went to Jaclyn Jose for her role in the romantic drama ‘A Secret Affair’.

A biopic based on the life of Aguinaldo, ‘El Presidente’ won 13 awards, including, among others, Best Director for Frank Meilly, Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Cesar Montaño, who plays Filipino hero Andres Bonficio.
