Asiavision Awards Sharjah: Mammootty, Aishwarya, Salmaan

South Indian mega star Mammootty and his family dominated the 9th edition of Asiavision Film Awards 2014.

While the mega star will receive the best actor award for his performance in 'Munnariyippu' and 'Balyakalasakhi', his son, Dulquer Salmaan will take home the performer of the year award for 'Bangalore Days', 'Njan' and 'Vikramadityan'.

'How Old Are You' bags many awards; 'Swapannam' directed by Shaji N Karun and 'Thira' directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan won the Best Artistic Movie award and Best Socially Committed movie.

The Asiavision movie award night at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium will be attended by the who's who of the Malayalam film industry on November 14. 

A 40,000-strong audience is expected to attend the programme hosted by Ranjani Haridas, Mithun Ramesh and Tinku Kalarikkal.

Announcing details of the 9th edition of Asiavision awards 2014, Nissar Sayed, Managing Diretor, Asiavision Advertising, said Manju Warrier, who has staged a major come back to the Malayalam film industry through 'How Old Are You', has been chosen as best female actress.

Aiswarya Rai Bachchan is chosen as 'Icon of Indian Cinema' and Kajol Devgn wil be honoured for her excellence in Indian cinema. 

'How Old Are You', a movie by Roshan Andrews won 'Best Movie'.

Director and writer Renjith bagged the best screenplay award for the movie, 'Njan' and 'How Old Are You' is selected as 'Best Film of the Year'.

'Munnariyippu' directed by Venu won 'Outstanding Movie of the Year' award, while 'Om Shantioshana' won the 'Best Family Movie' award.

The awards are given on the basis of an online poll conducted through the Asiavision website, Facebook, Radio and Television promotions. 

Dhanush and Shruthi Hassan from the Tamil film industry are elected for Youth Icon Awards, while UAE-based actors, Asha Sharath and Midhun Ramesh winning the best supporting actress and a special public choice awards.

The award night entry is through priced tickets and there will be performances by several stars.
