Vidya Balan, who is on a professional high, rubbishes the porn tag to her latest flick. Even when she does admit 'The Dirty picture' may not be advisable for children, there is no harm for the family to watch it together, she defends.

The movie highlights the seventies. The actor, who claims to have put on 30 kilos for the role, says "actresses need not look like a chess board. One can look sexy and sensuous being voluptious."

"Be it Meena Kumari, Madhubala or Vijyanthimala, all of them were voluptuous, yet possessed such alluring persona. My character in 'The Dirty Picture' is an attempt at reviving the beauty of that era. Yes, for this, I had to put on almost 30kgs or more. I had to eat and eat. I’m sure with this film, 70s look will be back in vogue. After all, women need not look like chess board all the time. Do they?”

Vidya refutes that 'The Dirty Picture' is a porn film. “Please do not call it a porn film, it’s not. If  the internet is giving this impression, then I would urge people to please stop reading such news,” says the actor, who feels that the view is biased. “Why, don’t kids these days watch English films on the television that have explicit sexual scenes?”  And while Vidya agrees that the film is not for kids, however, she doesn’t see any harm to watch the film with family. “He or she can surely sit all alone and enjoy the film.”

Varied roles

“I’m happy that I’ve got the chance of essaying such different kind of roles in my short filmy career. Enacting Silk [her character in The Dirty Picture] was enjoyable. I take pride in what I do, and I am happy with the roles I have done in the past – be it the vengeful wife in 'Ishqiya' or the next door girl in 'Parineeta'. In 'The Dirty Picture', I was convinced that the character is very alluring. I’m not portraying the famous Silk Smitha, but a danseuse character called Smitha. ”

On the changing role of women, she says, “Today’s women are a changed lot. They are independent and boldly follow their heart and do what they feel is appropriate. Take Silk Smitha for instance. She was ahead of her times, she did what most women are doing today without even bothering about what society may say. The only thing a women needs to take care today is not to tread the wrong path and be within their limits. “

Talking on her role in 'Kahaani', she says, "You never know. If the story line is good then you may see me in a dacoit’s avatar.”

Marriage

Surprisingly Vidya has adorned the sari as the sensual attire of the movie. “I love sari and like to wear it for all important occasions. Saris do make a woman look sexy, voluptuous and attractive without creating any negative feelings for her. Red is my favourite colour."

Not ready to walk the aisle yet, Vidya says, “I want to ensure that I get married to a man of my choice. He should be intelligent, smart and handsome. My man need not have mochas or beard. I think I will like a clean shaven man to be my other half."
