Kareena Kapoor has never shied away from speaking her mind in the past, so why let a royal wedding stop her now?

The newly-married actress threw caution to the wind once again in a recent interview with the ‘Indian Express’, where she was quoted as saying: “I have tried and tested it and personally endorse the live-in relationship formula in India.”

The 32-year-old, who is preparing to jet off with her actor-husband and fellow live-in partner of 5.5 years, Saif Ali Khan, on a delayed honeymoon post their nuptials in October, set quite a number of tongues wagging with her blasé comment – especially in a country that still raises the red flag on bold kissing scenes in mainstream Bollywood.

Many say the Kapoor-Khan relationship was pathbreaking of sorts in India, lifting the taboo on a bold living arrangement that is usually denied by celebrity couples in the country.

However, the duo isn’t the first in tinseltown to lift the curtain on their preference of a shared bedroom before marriage; and they certainly won’t be the last.

Emirates 24|7 takes a look at some other scandalous affairs amongst Bollywood’s leading men and women, who didn’t hesitate flaunting their love or their live-in relationship in front of the world.

Lara Dutta (Bhupati)-Kelly Dorje

The former Miss Universe, and her loyal model lover by her side, boldly professed their love for one another for eight long years, sharing living quarters even before they embarked on their respective Bollywood careers.

Back then, Dutta and Dorje would travel the circuit together and share hotel rooms, without batting an eyelid when asked about their live-in arrangements.
However, the relationship couldn’t survive the long run and Dutta went on to marry tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi and gave birth to their first child last year.

Bipasha Basu-John Abraham

Another Bollywood couple that emerged from the Indian modelling circuit, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu didn’t hesitate in moving in together within a few months of dating, back in 2002.

Lasting nine long years together, with several stories of break-ups, infidelity and patch-ups along the way, the couple finally parted ways in 2011.

The not-so amicable break-up has now seen Abraham together with Priya Runchul, while Bipasaha Basu claims to be single and fancy-free.

Saif Ali Khan-Roza Catalano

Before there was Kareena, there was Roza Catalano.

Such has been the illustrious life of Saif, who moved in with his Italian girlfriend after parting ways with his wife of 12 years, Amrita Singh.

Needless to say, the couple parted ways after a year or so, with a spurned Roza allegedly blaming Kareena as the main cause of the break-up.

Ameesha Patel-Vikram Bhatt

Ameesha Patel’s love-life has made enough gossip to probably fill an entire magazine edition.

The starlet, however, set a lot of tongues wagging when she moved in with director Vikram Bhatt’s marriage.

The actress even had a public spat with her parents, allegedly on the encouragement of her much older boyfriend.

However, it is claimed that her possessive and temperamental nature drove Bhatt away in the end. Meanwhile, Patel has since reconciled with her family.

Sushmita Sen-Vikram Bhatt

Before there was Ameesha, there was Sushmita.

It is alleged that shortly after winning the Miss Universe crown, Sushimta boldly moved in with her mentor and director Vikram Bhatt, becoming a homewrecker in his married life.

The couple also parted ways, with both members indulging in a string of alleged affairs in the years gone by.

Kamal Haasan-Sarika

The yesteryear couple probably went on to become icons and pathbreakers in this clandestine relationship back in the 1980s.

Not only did the couple boldly move in together back then, but they even had children out of wedlock, before finally tying the knot in 1988.

Haasan and Sarika finally parted ways, with their daughter Shruti now carving a career for herself in films.
