Fans of Bollywood’s latest heartthrob, Ayushmann Khurrana, were in for a rude shock last evening when news spread like wildfire that the actor-singer had died in a horrific skiing accident.

A spoof online news site, Global Associated News, posted this nugget, which read: ‘Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today.

‘The actor and novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends.

‘Witnesses indicate that Ayushmann Khurrana lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed’.

The news goes on to read that the actor was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital; however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash.

The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.

The only thing missing from this story was ‘April Fool’s Month’ at the bottom.

As news of this story spread on social media sites, Khurrana, who was in Dubai earlier this month for the world premiere of his latest, ‘Nautanki Saala’, tweeted to his fans and reassured them he was alive, well and ready for action.

He wrote:  “I have been hearing some bizarre rumours about my demise. RIP rumour mongers. Thanks.”

Several fans and friends of the actor responded to the tweet, with Demi Lovato writing: “Oh my, thank god you’re alright. I almost got a heart attack when I heard this rumour.”

Hetal Adesara said: “I just read it and I almost died. Came here quick to check. What a nasty piece of news.”

Salil Acharya wrote: “Ayushmann, heroic it was, lovely ski resort too.”

Incidentally, the same spoof site today has removed Khurrana’s name and replaced it with that of Hollywood hunk, Channing Tatum.

In the last few months, several celebrities have been named in death hoaxes, with this particular site naming Tom Cruise, Mickey Rourke, Justin Bieber and several other such big names in this fictitious skiing accident.

At least Khurrana can boast he has finally arrived with his name taken in the same breath as some of the mentioned celebrity A-listers.
