Treat this one with caution.

Rumours floating in from the States show the entire public spat between Heidi Montag and fellow reality TV Spencer Pratt may be a publicity stunt after all. Word is that Heidi Montage privately acknowledges the existence of her sex tape and is willing to discuss a deal with adult distributors Vivid Entertainment.

According to TMZ.com, Montag has agreed to listen to Vivid Entertainment chief Steve Hirsch when he arrives in Costa Rica to make an offer on the footage, which Pratt has been asking $5 million (Dh18.3m) for. The website quoted anonymous sources.

The celebrity website now says Montag wants Hirsch to provide her with the sales numbers on actress Kim Kardashian's sex tape, which was also released through Vivid, and which Pratt earlier cited as an easy  route to magazine covers. Apparently Montag now wants Vivid to cut a marketing and royalties deal if he cannot offer her enough money upfront.

The pair had a public spat on Twitter yesterday and have now been spotted together in Costa Rica, the website added in a separate story. Pratt told People magazine he was only bringing the couple's dogs to Heidi who was staying at their holiday home there, adding: "[Heidi] thought I was going to leave, but I'm not. I didn't want to get divorced... I have nothing in Malibu, I'm homeless, I'm nothing without her." Pratt, it seems, wants to get back together with Montag and continnue their reality television future together – in which case, he's willing to hold off on releasing the tape.

We're still looking for the truth in this entire mess.

"The Hills" actress was earlier reportedly looking into her legal options to halt both the video and a tell-all book that Pratt is said to be writing. She is best known for her role on "The Hills" and for having had 10 plastic surgeries in a single day. After 15 months of marriage, she filed for divorce from former co-star Pratt, 26, last month; their divorce is expected to be finalised on Valentine's Day 2011.
