Fans in the Gulf heaved a sigh of relief on the news that veteran Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar is well on the road to recovery.
His doctors disclosed that it could take some time before the actor is discharged.
“Jagathy’s general condition is satisfactory. There is steady improvement in his level of consciousness, but the recovery may take some time,” read a bulletin issued by the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Kozhikode, where has been treated ever since his near-fatal accident on March 10.
The actor, who has reportedly started physiotherapy, is now able to breathe without ventilator support most of the time. “He will be kept on minimal ventilator support in the night,” the statement added.
Earlier, Jagathy underwent multiple surgeries to correct a fracture on his right thigh, right hand and hip.
He has also suffered injuries in his neck, lungs and renal area.
The actor was enroute to Kodagu in Karnataka, to a Malayalam film set “Idavapathy”, when his car slammed into a road median and overturned.
The driver Anil Kumar, who was also injured, has been discharged today.
