The news isn’t good for sleaze queen Rakhi Sawant, with the Bombay High Court refusing to quash a plea of having the case against herself and the producers of her reality TV show that allegedly abetted in the suicide of Laxman Singh Aharwar, a Jhansi resident.

Aharwar allegedly killed himself after Sawant called him impotent on her show, “Rakhi Ka Insaaf” (Rakhi’s Justice), which airs on NDTV Imagine. The case has been filed against Sawant and four others and was registered by the Jhansi police.

The division bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and AP Bhangale adjourned the matter to November 26.

Yet, the self-confessed drama queen refused to be unfazed by the all the publicity surrounding the show and her actions. In an interview with Times of India, Sawant said: “I am not tensed about anything… There is no basis of a case against me. Whatever problem anyone has, he is free to complain against the channel. I am just doing what I have been told to do.”

She added: “Also, I still stand by what I said. It is not my problem if the participant took it literally. By calling him impotent I meant a man who cannot take care of his wife and cannot protect her. I watched the show several times and did not see anything that can instigate a person to commit suicide."

Showstopper

Sawant’s “Rakhi Ka Insaaf” is not immune to problems, considering just last week Indian regulators allegedly ordered the television channel not to air such reality shows before 11pm IST.

The ruling from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has yet to be fully explained by the government and affected, and the shows have continued to air in their regular prime time slots.

“Rakhi ka Insaaf” sees an opinionated Sawant playing Judge Judy as she tackles people’s personal problems.

This is of course not Sawant’s first foray on TV. Last year, the actress launched herself in unique reality show to find herself a husband on “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar” (Rakhi’s Marriage).

And she did succeed to find herself a potential suitor, albeit for a short while, with Sawant dumping her Canadian fiancé Elesh Parujanwala after the duo appeared in yet another reality show, “Pati Patni Aur Woh” (Husband, Wife and Another).

The runaway bride claimed that Parujanwala was only ever interested in becoming famous in Bollywood and was never really interested in her.

In an interview with TOI, Sawant was quoted as saying: “Elesh only agreed to the marriage because he thought he could fob of me. The shameless guy even wanted to move in with me. He also did not care whether I wore a bikini or smooched on screen as long, as I brought home the moolah.”

Fame Queen

In a showbiz career spanning almost a decade now, Sawant has seen it and done it all – including spilling the beans on Bollywood’s infamous casting couch, involving herself in a kissing controversy with Indian pop singer Mika and her many alleged plastic surgeries.

Rumoured to have had nearly 55 plastic surgeries to enhance her assets, the 31-year-old has supposedly had her nose done, along with her lips, chin, cheeks, breasts and her derriere, which was revealed by one-time pop rival Nandinii Jumani, aka Krazy Kat.

When Sawant was quizzed about turning into Miz Plastic Fantastic, she said: “No human being can undergo that many plastic surgeries. I’ve had a breast surgery done, but then had them removed when I went on to “Nach Balliye” because they hurt while dancing.”

There were also claims that Rakhi Sawant was in fact Rakesh Sawant, who underwent a sex change operation to further her career. The “Budha Mar Gaya” (The Old Man is Dead) actress has rubbished this claim too.

Yet, for someone who has been known for milking her five minutes of fame and turning it into 15 has been surprisingly mum on the subject of her latest controversy over the suicide.

When quizzed about this, the actress showed tact for a change, saying: “If I had spoken with news channel and newspapers then things would have been blown out of proportion. Also, I never wanted people to raise fingers at me saying that I have taken such news and turned it into a publicity stunt.”

Seems Sawant is finally growing up.
