Remember the break-ups? Salman, Aishwarya; Abhishek, Karisma...

We uncover the untold truth behind some of B-town’s most high-profile break-ups

We’ve heard of numerous stories of love failures and how many have tried and lost their love battle on the Bollywood turf. But, often the real reason for why they split remains hidden.

So, we’ve decided to step back in time and try to piece together the mystery that rocked four of Bollywood’s love boats.

Abhishek Bachchan – Karisma Kapoor

Although numerous theories surrounding their break-up have been floated around, the one that’s most prominent is that Karisma’s mother was unable to adhere to the Bachchan clan’s decision to keep her star-daughter from working in the movies.

She even had issues over Karisma having to move into the Bachchan house.

Apparently, the couple didn’t have much say in the break-up, and it was decided by the elders in the family.

This stopped from being possibly the most significant wedding in Bollywood.

Just months after Bachchan senior announced the engagement at his 60th birthday celebrations, news of their split started emerging, with both film families refusing to divulge any details for the sudden fall-out.

While the industry blamed everyone from the highhanded Babita, to an inquisitive Amar Singh, to a domineering Jaya Bachchan, the fact remains the couple chose to sacrifice their love to keep their families happy.

Salman Khan – Aishwarya Rai

This was, by far, was the nastiest break-ups in B-town, with Aishwarya Rai publically admitting to being in an abusive relationship with Salman Khan.

She got ‘The Times of India’ to publish a letter stating her decision to move away from a “violent and unstable” Khan.

In fact, when she had allegedly broken up with Salman, the actor had stormed into her film sets and disrupted shooting over his violet outbursts.

“I have maintained a dignified silence about him and his wrong doings but he has repeatedly attacked the respect, dignity and pride of me and my family with irresponsible rumour mongering,” she wrote in her newspaper column.

“I stood by him enduring his alcoholic misbehaviour in worst phases and in turn I was at the receiving end of his abuse, infidelity and indignity. That is why like any other self-respecting woman I had ended my relationship with him almost two years ago.”

There were even leaked transcripts of their telephone conversation, where Salman openly bullies Ash into appearing for a social event.

She even took legal actions against the star for harassing her and her family, and had to hire private security for her protection.

Salman, however, maintained that he had never hit Ash, and all the accusations were made up to tarnish his reputation.

Shahid Kapoor – Kareena Kapoor

Another star couple, who many thought would eventually end up in marital bliss, ended up going separate ways soon enough.

Kareena reportedly pulled the plug on their supposedly rock-steady relationship after she skipped a heartbeat for her ‘Tashaan’ co-star Saif Ali Khan.

Her reasons also boiled down to an extremely controlling Shahid, who would apparently decide who she should work with.

His rocky career patch also impacted their relationship, with Shahid remaining reclusive and irritable, leading to numerous tiffs.

John Abraham – Bipasha Basu

Despite dating for over a decade, cracks in their paradise appeared when rumours of an unfaithful Bipasha Basu emerged.

Photographs of Bipasha cozying up with Cristiano Ronaldo created a huge furor.

Soon reports of John’s flirting emerged, with the couple calling off their romance.

She later hinted at the reason by telling the media that “cheating was a deal breaker”.

The two have since kept mum about their spilt, but John’s quick link-up with his gym buddy Priya Runchal created more controversy, with many insiders claiming that they had actually hooked up while John was still dating Bips.
