Sachin Tendulkar may finally make a long-awaited Bollywood debut in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's “Ferrari Ki Sawari”, a film to be directed by Rajesh Mapuskar.

The Indian cricketer will reportedly act alongside actor Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani, Indian media reported. No further details were available.

A few months ago, Sachin had tweeted, "Vinod Chopra has a script called ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’. Just heard it. Sounds awesome." In yet another tweet, which he posted with a picture of him and Chopra, he had said, "Hanging with Vinod Chopra and Atul Kasbekar... 3 more Idiots?"

Other cricketers who have tried their luck on the silver screen include Vinod Kambli, Ajay Jadeja and Salil Ankola – all of whom have had little success.

Tendulkar, though, has been seen in film before: two years ago, he shot for a documentary on Mumbai's Siddhivinayak temple, in which he spoke how he felt when he visited the temple.

Tendulkar’s passion for Ferrari cars has been well documented. In commemorating his feat of equalling Don Bradman's 29 centuries in Test Cricket, automotive giant Ferrari gifted him a Ferrari 360 Modena at the British Grand Prix in 2002. A controversy over tax duties ensued when he took the car to India, but the cricketer is now seen taking the car on late-night drives around Mumbai.

Whether the Ferrari in the film's titled refers to that particular car remains to be seen.
