Top 10 unusual and bizarre celebrity baby names

Published
By Amal Al Jabry

What does a rocket, a saint and a river all have in common? Answer: They're all the names of celebrity children!

Most famous personalities are known to come up with names for their babies which are unique and creative.

Some names are quite traditional, but most are outright bizarre.

Many expressed their surprise that the biggest name of 2013 was “Cheese”, in fact, chosen by 72 sets of parents, according to the BabyCenter database and the US Government Social Security Administration.

Remember North, Apple and Suri? These names would appear normal compared to the upcoming list below of the more unusual choices that kids of the rich and famous will be stuck with for the rest of their lives (or until they can legally change them once they turn 18).

Pilot Inspektor

A great one to start with.

Actor Jason Lee  made viewers laugh in his star role in the comedy series  “My Name is Earl”.

But when he named his son “Pilot Inspektor” (yes, spelt with a K), it didn’t seem so funny.

Why "Pilot?" One would imagine it would inspire his son to fly airplanes.

The truth is, Jason heard a song by the group Granddaddy called "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot", a song from the album “The Sophtware Slump”.

“Pilot Inspektor” was probably the best choice compared to the other options (from the same album): Humanoid, Knievel or Chartsengrafs.

Audio Science

Actress Shannyn Sossamon has not been in the news lately but she forces her way onto this list with this remarkably peculiar name.

“Audio Science” – It’s very rare that a baby name ends up sounding like the name of a class at college.

The “A Knight’s Tale” star was quoted as saying, "We wanted a word not a name, so we read through the dictionary three or four times. We were going to call him Science, but thought it might get shortened to Sci, as in Simon."

And so, they added “Audio”.

Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen, Moon Unit, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Dweezil

Rather than let these siblings’ names take over half the list, we've stacked all of the late musician and film director Frank Zappa's bizarre children’s names into one entry.

When these names are being discussed, Zappa’s youngest daughter, “Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen” has been voted as the least kookiest.

His widow Gail Zappa explained that the bizarre names all had a special meaning within their family.

She added that their eldest daughter “Moon” was nearly named “Motorhead”.

Tu

Apart from the wacky names, and the ostentatious hippie names, we also have the pun names.

This was the idea actor Rob Morrow from the TV show Numb3rs, and his other half came up with, for their newborn baby girl “Tu”.

So, her full name would be “Tu Morrow”.

This may make you wonder if the couple gave “Robin Banks” a pass.

But most importantly, has “Tu Morrow”  met “North West” yet?

Jermajesty

While the idea of bad puns and stubborn plays on language really should just be avoided at all costs, the legendary Jermaine Jackson has decided to harness its full potential.

"Jermajesty", is the name he and his wife chose for their son.

While many waited for the parents to say they were kidding with this name, we wonder what would be the child’s nickname growing up.

“Jerm” is a definite possibility.

Kyd

X-Files star David Duchovny and actress Tea Leoni chose to name their kid, “Kyd”.

That’s “Kyd Miller Duchovny”.

This shows that the parents enjoy an imaginative play on words.

They probably also enjoy a good laugh when they yell “Hey, Kyd!” in a park and several kids turn their heads.

But now the little boy is usually called by his middle name, Miller. Probably a wise choice.

Seven Sirius

Andre-3000-and-Erykah-Badu

This is the name chosen by renowned singer  Erykah Badu and rapper André 3000 for their newborn baby boy.

It’s possible that Erykah likes unusual names, as Seven’s half-sisters are named Mars Merkaba and Puma Sabti.

Since Dad is 3000 and he’s only seven, there’s always the possibility that the boy will always be trying to measure up.

What about his half-sisters? Mars for instance - Aren’t men supposed to be from Mars?

In the case of the other half-sister Puma, she may have either been named after a mountain lion, or a shoe.

Fifi Trixibelle

She’s the daughter of the world-famous musician Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates

Sir Geldof explained he named his daughter Fifi after his aunt, while his wife expressed her attraction towards the lives of southern belles, hence the last part.

No explanation was provided for “Trixi”.

Fifi Trixibelle joins her half-sisters Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, Little Pixie and (the late) Peaches Honeyblossom.

Banjo

This is the chosen name for the son of actress Rachel Griffiths and artist Andrew Taylor.

Surprisingly, his siblings are not named Guitar and Bass.

Banjo’s sisters are instead named Adelaide Rose and Clementine Grace.

The couple explained they named him after the famous Australian poet Banjo A.B. Paterson.

Camera

The late tennis great Arthur Ashe and wife Jeanne Moutoussamy (who was a photographer) both broke new grounds on word names when they used this for their newborn baby.

They decided that "Camera" would perfectly fit their daughter.

Names like "Camera" occur when parents name their children after their passions.

Good thing the wife was into photography, and not other hobbies such as, Javelin Catching
