Demonetisation hits Bollywood hard

Demonetisation of the Rs 500 and the Rs 1000 currency notes has hit Bollywood hard.

Over 60 shoots in Bollywood have been cancelled because the production team has been unable to pay the daily wage workers whose payments exceed Rs 2 lakh or more. One of the biggest production in Bollywood however has managed to carry on the shoots because they paid additional money to the workers to carry on their duties in old currency notes while television serial shoots have carried on because the TV channels and the Tv producers have been paying people via cheques and bank transfers.

Having said that last week’s release Rock on 2 flopped miserably at the box office even though the film was widely promoted and has not even managed to tough the Rs 10 crore mark by the weekend at a time when most successful films breast the Rs 100 crore tape.

Much was expected from Rock On 2 because it was a sequel and the first part of the film had grossed around Rs 30 crores in India over eight years ago with a worldwide gross crossing 7.1 million USD. The film also had the added casting of lucky charm Shraddha Kapoor who has only been part of hits ever since her third film Aashiqui 2 went on to be a box office juggernaut. Despite Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal also being a part of the film, Rock On 2 failed to rock.

Funnily though Shraddha Kapoor blamed the marketing team for the failure of the film. The marketing guys of the film responded by saying that she has never queued up at ATMS forget buying tickets at the theatre.
