An art exhibition that celebrates UAE culture

There is never a dearth of weekend activities in Dubai. But here is your chance to experience the emirate’s exquisite heritage and culture.

Head to the on-going Islamic Art Splendour at the Ahmedia Heritage Guest House in Al Ras area of Dubai.

The exhibition, which celebrates emerging artists, hosts works that embody Arab culture including Quranic art and calligraphy.

The fair that began on August 18th has seen a continuous flow of art enthusiasts. On Wednesday, MK Lokesh, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, visited the venue.  He did not hide his surprise on discovering how UAE history has been preserved amid the hustle and bustle of Dubai.

“It will be nice if expats and the current generation locals could come and have a peep into heritage locations like these. I am happy I could make time to come here and see some good original art for an affordable price range," said the ambassador.

In fact, his views have been echoed by several visitors to the gallery. The guest house that hosts the gallery is in itself a place to be explored. Tucked away in the Al Ras area of Deira, the winding lanes from the famous Gold Souq will transport you into the bygone era.

The exhibition that concludes over the weekend features more than 30 original artworks, including a few from the collection of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community development. Artists from India, Ukraine, Pakistan and Iraq, Mauritius are also featured.

The collection boasts an interesting range of traditional as well as contemporary mixed media works.

Quite a few paintings have been sold in the last 10 days, with the Indian ambassador buying two himself, says Archana R D Arts & Events Manager, Ahmedia Art Gallery.
