Farhan Akhtar’s  film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ has also been nominated in most categories at this year’s IIFA Awards, but Farhan will be at IIFA in a slightly different capacity this year. After direction, dialogue writing, acting, and singing, Farhan follows his 2009 stint as talk show host of ‘Oye It’s Friday!’ by joining Shahid Kapoor to host this year’s IIFA awards to be held in Singapore from June 7-9.

“IIFA has been responsible for taking our culture and movies to different parts of the world. I’ve always felt it’s a great thing. And we’re promoting Indian cinema globally. As always, I’m looking forward to this year’s IIFA,” Farhan says.

“This is the first time I’ll be co-hosting IIFA. I’ve always been sitting in the audience, twitching with sweaty palms, getting nervous, wondering if I’d win an award. This year, I’m on the other side, and there’ll be others in the audience twitching with sweaty palms,” he adds with a laugh.

Farhan has never shared screen space with his co-host Shahid. “We’ve never worked together, but I think he’s a great performer and a wonderful actor. We’ve been having a few sessions, and it’s been great. I think if you’re working together, it’s important to think alike and we do think alike, so, I guess, we’ll have a great rapport on stage,” says the ‘Don 2’ director.

At most award functions, the hosts end up taking potshots at various people from the industry, which at times even ends up offending people. However, Farhan claims they’ll take care not to hurt any sentiments while hosting this event. He says, “I think Shahid and I will have fun at each other’s expense. We’ll make fun of each other and not hurt others. Although I won’t get into the details of our act, there’ll obviously be a certain decorum that would be maintained. The industry needs to be respected.”

Over the years, IIFA has always been led by biggies like the Bachchans and Khans.

This year though the Khans won’t be making an appearance at the IIFA. Both Salman and Shah Rukh Khan will be shooting for their films abroad during the IIFA weekend.

And Amitabh Bachchan, who was once the brand ambassador of IIFA, hasn’t been a part of the event for a few years now. Never fear though, for all the young blood will be in Singapore to make IIFA big.

“I think change is inevitable. The people who were before us are really big, and they’ve given us the responsibility to take Indian cinema internationally and make IIFA a trend,” Farhan notes.

Farhan’s ready wit and Sasha’s brilliant smiles might be just the right combination to make this IIFA Award ceremony a huge hit.
