Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal houses were raided by income tax officers on Friday following tip-offs that the IT returns filed by them were no proportionate to their income.
According to Indian media reports, Mammootty and Mohanlal homes in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were raided and have seized several documents.
Mammootty's production company Play House in Chennai and h is houses in Chennai and Kochi were also raided on Friday morning.
Mohanlal – who also reportedly own hotel business in Bangalore - was recently in news for buying an apartment in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower.
Both the actors have also starred in Bollywood flicks.
Mohanlal is currently shooting for a film in Rameshwaram and his statement is being recorded, while Mammootty is in Chennai, ND TV said .
News agencies in India reported that as many as 80 officials from the income tax department have been inspecting the houses and offices of superstars in Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.
