It was the last glimmer of hope for fashion redemption when news filtered out that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has extended her stay at Cannes.
Aishwarya wore a shimmering Tarun Tahiliani saree at the amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS research) gala.

Without mincing words let us put it this way - "All that glitters is not gold". Ash's last Cannes appearance in 2013 was not a golden moment at all.
After her out-of-character teal blue Gucci dress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played safe with one of her favourite colours, gold.

The star-studded event is celebrating Gold this year, with collection of gold gowns and jewellery from emerging fashion houses across the globe.
Aishwarya did her bit with the gold-themed saree showing the designer's latest creations "Ultimate Gold Collection".
She wore her hair up again, in a style only marginally better than the last one with her teal blue Gucci outfit.

But the entire ensemble was rather disappointing with gold overdose - the heels, the blouse, the drape, everything was blindingly golden.
And there is no explanation to the suffocating high-necked blouse. Why not ditch the matronly cut and wear a simple blouse?

This year black-gold Sabyasacchi saree and the golden tiara, however, gets the crown. But it doesn't stop at the tiara alone. The neck, the wrist-bands, the drape, everything was blindingly black and golden.
Unlike Vidya Balan who stuck to sad Sabbyasachi sarees, Aishwarya was never loyal to one designer. She picked one for every occasion hoping (we guess) if one goes wrongly probably the other will work.

However, the teal blue Gucci premiere gown and hot pink lips at the carpet gets a thumps up. But Ash still didn't get it completely right. The black satin clutch was an outfit-killer, the towering updo also earned her minus points.
