Guns N' Roses, Jonas Brothers to play the UAE

Given the band's chequered history, it's a day many fans thought they'd never see: a Guns N' Roses concert in the UAE.

But Emirates247.com can now reveal the iconic group will play on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island later this year.

Other new acts confirmed to play the UAE are teenage heartthrobs The Jonas Brothers as well as the Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado.

The events are being organised by Flash Entertainment and are part of a slew of events around the Etihad Airways Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Jonas Brothers will perform at the Yas Arena on November 18, while Furtado will take to the stage at the same venue a week later, on November 26. And Guns N' Roses wil make sure roads to Abu Dhabi are chockablock on December 16.

Tickets will be priced from Dh150, and are expected to go on sale soon at thinkflash.ae.

Furtado made her breakthrough with the Grammy Award-winning single, "I'm Like a Bird," off her 2000 debut album, "Whoa Nelly!". She has since sold over 20 million albums. The eight-million-selling trio Jonas Brothers, meanwhile, are best known for their work on the children's Disney Channel network.

American hard rock band Guns N' Roses had their heyday in the eighties and nineties, when frontman Axl Rose and guitarist Slash tore up stadiums around the world and smashing attendance records. They have sold over 100 million albums, but Rose is the only original member of the band left. Of the others, keyboardist Dizzy Reed has been with the group the longest -- since 1990.

The new acts join a stellar line-up of musicians who will set the capital on fire over the next few weeks.

Kanye West, Linkin Park and Prince are set to perform after Grand Prix racing events on the weekend of November 12 to 14. On the same nights, American R&B singer Kelis and the Arabic superstars Nancy Ajram and Fares Karem will hit the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

And the same weekend will see intimate concerts with British performers Gabrielle, The Sugababes and Corinne Bailey Rae, while Sarah McLachlan will play the Official Ball 2010 on November 13.

Club-goers have not been neglected, either: Sander Van Doorn and James Zabiela will are among a host of top DJs joining David Guetta at this year’s Creamfields Abu Dhabi on December 9.

At this rate, music fans might as well just take up residence in the capital permanently!
