Guy Ritchie wants to install 200 solar panels in a field near his British mansion.

The 'Sherlock Holmes' director - who was previously married to Madonna, with whom he has sons Rocco, 11 and adopted David, five - wants his home in Wiltshire to be entirely self-sufficient for energy and has made an application to the local council to place the sun-catching panels in a field in nearby Ashcombe.

However, local council boss Gordon Marks has claimed he has not yet seen plans.

He told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "We have not heard about this. We will wait to see the plans."

It is not the first time Guy - who used to live on the 1,132-acre site with Madonna - has tried to make his country manor more environmentally-friendly.

In 2009, he was given permission to build three greenhouses on the grounds so he could grow fruit and vegetables using rainwater and heat from a woodchip boiler.

However, not all of his additions have been so green-minded - he was allowed to build a sporting lake on the north-west of the estate in early 2009.

In addition his country mansion, Guy - who is currently expecting his first child with model Jacqui Ainsley - also owns a £6 million London mansion which was taken over by squatters earlier this year while it was being renovated.
