Looks like Bollywood is embracing a new breed of celebrities, those that flaunt and flourish mostly on the social media circuit. No longer are acting careers as important, or even crucial, with their net worth weighed in terms of Instagram/twitter/snapchat following.

Yes, some B-towners are slowly, but surely, shifting focus on their social media image, constantly updating their life off-screen. From what they wore, to what they ate, to where they travelled, to who they hang out with, it’s all out there.

For a lot that claims to fiercely guard their private lives, these social media photo updates prove they secretly enjoy the attention.

While some celebs accelerate their insta posts ahead of their movie launch, others simply enjoy clicking away all year through. Some have even let their acting career fizzle in light of their new found fame in the virtual world.

Here are a few insta(gram) celebs, who broadcast their world to win virtual fans and (possibly) a mention in the media.

Bipasha Basu

2.9million instagram followers

She undoubtedly tops the list. From her romance with now-husband Karan Singh, to their wedding, and later honeymoon, she insists on giving a round-the-clock update on her life. There’s never a moment that isn’t captured for the instagram lenses. Even when she was rumoured to be dating Karan, the actress would gleefully post images of their dates online. While her instagram life appears exciting colourful, her Bollywood acting career has taken a backseat, with her last outing being in 2015 for ‘Alone’ (with Karan).

Sonakshi Sinha

4.9 million followers

Despite showcasing some talent in ‘Lootera’, she preferred playing second fiddle to big heroes in Bollywood masala flicks. Surely having one’s name appear in the much-talked about INR100-crore movie club list was of far great importance to this star kid. And, now, she’s taken the social media by storm. Posting snippets of her celeb life, constantly. After a dance appearance in ‘All is well’, she is now all charged up for her next full-fledged acting role in action drama ‘Akira’. We wonder if her incessant social media updates has distracted her from aiming for acting laurels.

Jaqueline Fernandez

7.3 million followers

She’s Bollywood’s new giggle-fest. She may not be as prolific or substantial with her acting projects, but when it comes to social media, this Sri Lankan beauty queen seems to have nailed it. She’s got a pulse on her insta-fans, and feeds them tidbits about her celeb life, her fashion preferences and family vacations. It’s a great way to keep the producers, directors and fans updated about her life, don’t you think? Auditions are so last season!

Arjun Kapoor

3.6million followers

Another star kid on the block, who prefers to keep his social media platforms updated over (actually) finding a substantial acting role. He’s done seven movies since his debut in 2012, his last being ‘Ki and Ka’ in early 2016, and is working on another feature that’s slated for 2017 release. Considering there’s a big gap before his next movie hits the theatre, Arjun prefers to busy himself on instagram. Whether its his gym routine or plugging some memorable quotes, or promoting movies of his B’town pals, he finds a way to be on Instagram.

Parineeti Chopra

5.6million followers

Six-movie-old Ms Chopra went from chubby to skinny, and diligently documented her transformation on the web. She even released a photo album flaunting her newly-acquired bod. While all that’s truly inspirational, it’s her movie career that’s suddenly taken a backseat. If it’s not the gym or fashion, she’s got busy with travels, making for an interesting instagram album. Currently she’s with the Dream Team dance tour in the US, and is not losing any opportunity to click away.

Nagris Fakhri

3.6million followers

Between dodging paaps over her relationship with YashRaj boy Uday Chopra and flaunting her designer wardrobe, she does manage to sign on a few Bollywood projects. They may not be big blockbusters, but they do warrant enough weightage for instagram glory.

Malaika Arora Khan

2.8million followers

She’s a seasoned item girl, celebrated fashionista, dance show judge and sister-in-law to one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars (Salman Khan). Those are enough to win bragging rights on the social media circuit. While the numbers aren’t staggering compared to the relatively new faces in Bollywood, she continues to work her designer magic on the virtual map.

Sophie Choudry

She’s a singer, and a popular face in the party circles, with top designers, actors and film producers on speed dial, and so makes for an exciting social media celeb. There’s a posts that flaunt her B’town connections, and her stunning fashion collection. From Salman Khan to Katrina Kaif, to Ali Bhatt, she appears to be friends with them all.

Gul Panag

29.7k followers

True to her instagram profile wording, she’s a person who clicks in the elevators. It’s an almost daily routine, giving a sneak peek into her stylish wardrobe. Whether it’s of relevance or not, we don’t know. But the number of followers sure shows there’s clearly an interest that she’s gleefully catering to.

Huma Qureshi

She started her acting career with promise, but soon the projects started drying up, and she found herself in some box-office duds. Her social media presence might be to reinvent her Bollywood journey. Everything from fashion to odd-media interviews, to fun outing with brother and actor Saqib Saleem make a pretty picture on her insta-frame.
