It's a hat trick for Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan.

With 'Om Shanti Om', 'Chennai Express' and 'Happy New Year' the duo has emerged as the couple with the Midas touch on-screen.

Deepika has emerged as one of the most sought-after actresses in the film industry.

It wasn't a cakewalk for the actress who had her share of downfalls before bouncing back with hit films.

The actress experimented with bold roles in films like 'Cocktail' where she essayed a grey character. She is one of the few actresses whose many films have broken box office records in the industry.

We catch up with the star of the moment.

What do you really mean when you say ‘Salman and I are star-crossed lovers’?

For the past many years, people have been trying to offer me and Salman films together. But for whatever reason, the film never happens. So I did mention in reference to that – that we are like star crossed lovers.

Is not true that you belong to SRK camp and that is why you don't do any film with Salman?

Really? Give us some credit. We are little more mature than that. That's a bit silly you asked this question. Actually, there's absolutely no truth about it. We need to get the right director and the right script; I think the timing for the film has to be right.
The more they are not doing a film together, the more this paring is in the limelight. It's something that has to happen organically. More than the film itself, I am more excited about the process of working with him. He is a very interesting person and personality to be on the set and things like that.

Tell us something about the 'Happy New Year' collections?

Ask me anything about the movie I can tell you. The collection department belongs to my producers. Reviews are my directors', for me what is important is the love and appreciation that we get from audience. And I think that's what one really looks forward for.

Are you enjoying the success of ‘HNY’?

What I think is that we have to enjoy the success but not for too long or to hold it back, we should let it go and prepare for the next.

Who inspires you?

I think everybody inspires me; it's the most interesting time to be in the Indian cinema. Everything is so interesting right now, and everyone is challenging each other in a healthy way.

Govinda complimented your paring with Ranveer? Your take?

He actually said this to us on IIFA last year. He had seen something of 'Ram Leela' and he liked our on screen pairing. Ranveer is someone who is fond of Govinda and he enjoys his work. He is inspired by Govinda and it's a huge compliment for us coming from someone like Govindaji whose films I have grown up watching.

What about 'Bajirao Mastani'?

I haven't started shooting for 'Bajirao Mastani' yet. When I start shooting next year I will see the look.

Are you upset with Priyanka Chopra?

Do I look upset? Absolutely not, because we are already working in a lovely environment. Everyone is getting along with everybody and I think we are very comfortable working with each other. I don't want to complicate things when there is no issue. She is someone I am fond of and we know each other too well for any of this to affect our equation.

What did you gift SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) on his birthday?

In terms of material things, I don't think he wants or needs anything. I just wish him a lot of love and success, not even success a he has got all of that also. I just want him to be happy that is what he has given us. He has given us so much love and happiness and I wish him the same.

Do you regret films which did not do well?

No, I don't. It's an experience, but I have got friends for life. Sometimes I value this more than anything else. Of course success of the film makes the experience makes it even better. I think the journey and people that you work with is important. I genuinely feel that I am fortunate to work with really amazing people.

So who was more fun with? Naseeruddin Shah in 'Finding Fanny' or Amitabh Bachchan in 'Piku'?

I think it's a tough choice between Naseeruddin Shah and Amitabh Bachchan!
