Hugh Jackman is being treated for skin cancer again after doctors found another basal cell carcinoma.

The 48-year-old actor - who has already had several surgeries on his nose since being diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in 2013 - shared a picture of himself on Twitter with a bandage, and revealed that doctors have found more of the non-melanoma cancer.

He wrote: "Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent checks & amazing doctors, all's well. Looks worse w the dressing on then off! WEARSUNSCREEN (sic)."

Hugh, who is now required to have his skin checked every three months, previously also had cancer removed from his shoulder and has been vocal about urging others to get checked.

He has said: "It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word 'cancer'. Being an Australian, [skin cancer] is a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.

"I was trying to keep calm about it... basal cell carcinoma is just something you have to deal with. It's cancerous. It will grow. You just have to get it out.

"I go every three months for checkups. It's the new normal for me. My doctor says I'll likely have more and if that's your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky."

And he has praised his fellow Australian star Nicole Kidman for encouraging paler people to embrace and take care of their complexions.

He said: "I'm heartened to see the idea that to be sexy and beautiful you have to be tan is gone. People like Nicole Kidman have done a great job. She was made fun of when she was a kid in Australia because she stayed in the shade. No one is making fun of her now."
