Britain's Duchess Catherine has confessed she is missing Prince William "terribly".

The Duchess of Cambridge told a well-wisher in Leicester that she is being "well looked after" without her husband - who is currently working as a search-and-rescue pilot in the Falkland Islands - and he is doing "fine" while on duty.

During a visit to Leicester with her grandmother Queen Elizabeth on the first leg of the monarch's Diamond Jubilee tour of Britain, Laura Murphy said: "I said, 'How's William?' and she said, 'He's fine - I'm missing him terribly'.

"She was really smiley. Really happy."

Catherine also told Laura: "I'm being well looked after."

She was presented with a Scouts neckerchief from 13-year-old Jessica Laws before attending a service in the city's cathedral.

The royal has been on a number of solo engagements since William went to the Falklands, following her first in October.

Earlier this month, she visited London store Fortnum and Mason with her husband's stepmother Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the queen, and confessed to being a chocolate lover.

She explained: "I love chocolate yes, I think most girls like chocolate."
