Keira Knightley marries boyfriend James Righton

British actress Keira Knightley married singer James Righton in a discreet ceremony in the southern French village of Mazan on Saturday, according to the mayor.

Mayor Aime Navello told AFP the small civil ceremony was attended by "about 15 people", mostly family.

The parents of the 28-year-old actress, known for her role in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, own a house in Mazan, a town of about 5,000 people near the medieval town of Avignon in Provence.

Her husband is part of the band The Klaxons.

The bride wore a tulle, pale pink, strapless, full-skirted dress that came to the knee, accessorised with a white, Chanel tweed jacket, ballet pumps and a floral garland which sat on top of her loose hair.

The low-key ceremony took place at a town hall in Mazan, 12 miles from Marseille. This afternoon, the reception will be hosted at the holiday home of Knightley's mother, playwright Sharman MacDonald, in a marquee erected in the garden. Guests are thought to include Sienna Miller.

The Vogue cover girl announced news of her engagement in May 2012 and was soon after seen wearing a brilliant-cut solitaire diamond ring.

The 28-year-old actress started dating her now-husband just over two years ago, after they were reportedly introduced by mutual friend Alexa Chung.

Knightley is also known for her roles in "Love Actually" (2003), "Pride and Prejudice" (2005), "The Duchess" (2008) and "Anna Karenina" (2012).
