After Tom Cruise, it is now the turn of Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil to leave his cinematic imprint on the landmark Burj Khalifa.

The actor has filmed for the movie ‘Diamond Necklace’ being directed by famed Malayalam director Lal Jose atop the world’s tallest tower.

Unlike his Hollywood counterpart, whose stunts for ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ on the world’s tallest tower made headlines across the globe, the Indian actor isn’t willing to make this a marketing gimmick.

‘Diamond Necklace’ will be Lal Jose’s second movie that puts the spotlight on Dubai, with his first ‘Arabikatha’ throwing light on the trials and tribulations of the working class in the UAE.

His latest film focuses on contrasting lifestyles in the emirate and how his character, oncologist Dr Arun Kumar (played by Fahadh), hits the highs and lows of the city in a glamorous, yet realistic narrative.

Although the erratic climate impacted the film schedule, with the strong winds forcing the crew to stay indoors for the last seven days, Fahadh revealed how a few scenes were filmed in the hazy weather, lending a realistic texture to the movie.

The schedule was also delayed by actor Jagathy Sreekumar’s sudden health crisis.

“We’ve had to re-shoot Jagathy’s parts with actor Maniyanpilla Raju,” confirmed the actor.

Despite being someone who isn’t influenced by heavy research, allowing his personal interpretations facilitate a spontaneous performance, Fahadh expressed how he drew references from his close friends, who’ve lived in the emirate.

Having camped in the emirate for a little over a month, Fahadh has developed a fondness for Dubai. “For me, it’s more like home away from home.”

But it’s not the clichéd hotspots that have impressed the actor. “Unlike the malls, it was the easiest to shoot in the labour camps. They just watched us, without interrupting our schedules. They went about their lives without disrupting ours.”
