The world came crashing down for 1D fans in the UAE when news flashed that stressed out Zayn Malik has taken a break from their world tour.

This announcement comes just two weeks before the band is due to perform in Dubai on April 4.

Heartbroken and on tenterhooks fans lament on social media - Fatema Al Azzawi: "I hope he comes in dubai or else i'll cry my eyes out."

Maria Ahmad: "NO NO NO NONONOOOOOOOOO."

Fatima Hashe: "We can't go now."

But there's still hope of his return.

Organisers here are confident Zayn will be on stage in Dubai for the UAE gig at The Sevens Stadium.

In a statement to Emirates247, Done Events said, "One Direction has issued a statement confirming that band member Zayn has left the tour for stress relief in the UK but that he intends to return to join the tour in South Africa and Dubai."

Done Events COO Thomas Ovesen said, "We look forward to hosting the final show of the One Direction world tour here in Dubai on April 4th for what is not only a sold out but also the biggest ever Middle East Concert."

Now Dubai fans can only hope his intention to return is strong enough.

Other band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson will continue with the remaining tours in Manila and Jakarta.

On Saturday (Mar 21), One Direction (minus Zayn) performed the first half of the Manila leg of their 'On The Road Again' tour at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

The South African leg of 'On The Road Again' tour has gigs scheduled for Johannesburg on March 28 and 29, and Cape Town on April 1, after which the band will head to UAE.

It was confirmed by band PR representative Simon Jones that the 22-year-old singer had been "signed off with stress" and had flown back to the UK.

News of Zayn's departure from the tour follows swiftly after rumors broke that Zayn was cheating on his fiance Little Mix popstar Perrie Edwards.

A picture of him hold hands with another girl in Thailand,  while in another the two posed with his arm around her stomach went viral.

Malik spoke out against speculation about their relationship by declaring his love for his fiancee.

"I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f***s in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x" Malik wrote in a Tweet to his 14.1 million followers.

Clearly this Twitter message did nothing tto his love life.

It is reported that Zayn Malik spent five hours chatting to the Little Mix singer at their home in Barnet, North London, and though she was later seen getting in a car with an overnight bag, insiders insist the couple haven't split up.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: "She was furious about the pictures of him holding hands with an attractive blonde fan, and delivered an ultimatum to leave the tour and fix their relationship.

"Zayn's been away on a world tour and it's difficult for them to maintain their commitment when they aren't together. Perrie reiterated, 'Get home if you want to sort this mess out, or we're done.'"

Malik's departure is not the first time One Direction has had to perform without him. In November, he did not make an appearance on the ‘Today' show due to a stomach issue. While host Matt Lauer asked the band if his absence was related to substance abuse, both the band and Malik have denied these claims.

Malik has been working on new music with UK artist Naughty Boy. The producer and songwriter revealed to The Independent that the pair have written several songs together, including one titled 'One Chance to Dance' to be recorded by One Direction.

Malik, who is from Bradford in northern England, was picked to be in One Direction after each of the band's five members auditioned separately to be on reality TV show X Factor in 2010.
