Travellers at Terminal 3 of Dubai Airport this morning were in for a treat with not one, but two Oscar winners jetting through the shiny halls of the Emirates boarding gates.

Australian actor Russell Crowe gave a shout out to his fans on twitter, posting a picture of the departures board in Arabic and asking his followers to guess the city he was temporarily stationed in.

He followed up his ‘where am I’ tweet with a reply to fan responses, saying: “Dubai is correct. Just saw a friend I wasn’t expecting to see. Who was it? Ask me nicely.”

A few guesses later, Crowe himself confirmed that fellow actress and Aussie mate Cate Blanchett was also at the Emirates terminal.

“The clue was in the tweet. Cate Blanchett, Maid Marion [his co-star in ‘Robin Hood’]. Boarding now. Off to another mystery destination,” he added.

Crowe followed the tweet up with a curt: “Goodbye Dubai.”

However, the actor wasn’t done yet.

He added: “Lots of red and green in Dubai; feel right at home. Who is becoming a South Sydney Rabbitohs member today?”

Crowe is an ardent co-owner and supporter of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, an Australian professional rugby league football team.

The three-time Academy Award nominee appeared to be flying with Emirates, possibly taking advantage of the airline’s partnership with Aussie-carrier Qantas, which will operate 14 flights daily between Dubai, Australia and beyond, along with extensive Australian domestic flights, frequent flyer advantages and shared lounge access.

Crowe has been in the news of late, with his upcoming ‘Man of Steel’, the Superman reboot, which releases later this month.

The 49-year-old will play Superman’s biological father.

The summer thriller will release across UAE cinemas on June 13, one day before its US release.
