The buzz surrounding Madonna’s UAE concert, scheduled for June 6, 2012 has proven to be a damp squib as the pop icon’s rep confirmed to world media that the lead tour schedule was a fake.

For those not in the know, the internet and world media was in a frenzy over the weekend, when a Live Nation document listing Madonna’s 2012 tour dates was featured on a website.

UAE fans were particularly antsy over the document’s legitimacy, considering the queen of pop’s scheduled tour stops also included one on June 6, 2012 at Yas Arena.

However, Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg issued a statement saying: “We have no information regarding a Madonna tour at this time. Disregard rumours and fake schedules.”

In a recent interview, the Grammy winner announced that she is currently working on her 12th studio album, after 2008’s  “Hard Candy”, which will be due next year in March.

“I’ve started a little bit of work in the studio, when I got back to New York and till the end of the year I’ll be in the recording studio.” she said in a press interview at the beginning of September. “The first single in February/March and the album will come out in the spring,” she said. “I’m looking forward to working on it.”

Some Madonna fans here are actually relieved that the June concert is a hoax, what with exams and sweltering summer temperatures.

“My O level exams may be scheduled around that time, so frankly, I am happy that the concert date is a hoax,” said 15-year-old Anisa Seyrrah. “And why would anyone hold a world-renowned concert during June in the UAE?”

The sentiment was echoed by several others, with Ghassan Al Bukhair, a 25-year-old fan saying: “It was difficult even in the cooler climes of November to stand your ground during last week’s Janet Jackson concert.

“I for one am relieved because sustaining oneself in an outdoor concert in the heat of June is a recipe for disaster.”

This is not the first time speculation over Madonna’s concert tour dates has proved fake.

Back in 2008, British newspaper, The Sun, had reported that Madonna was to receive $15 million for doing one performance in Dubai.

She has also been approached to sing at a private party there, which would have earned her another $10 million.

The paper had even quoted a source at the time, saying: “Madonna is about to break another record by playing the most lucrative concert of her whole career – or anyone’s career for that matter.”

Needless to say, UAE residents continue to live in hope that one day, one of these stories will prove to be the real deal.
