The brother of Qandeel Baloch, whose risqué social media posts both titillated and appalled conservative Pakistan, on Sunday admitted to strangling her in a crime that reignited debate about so-called "honour killings" in the South Asian nation.

Muhammad Waseem said he gave a "tablet" to Baloch to subdue her and then strangled her in their family home over the weekend.

"I have no regrets," he told journalists in a press conference arranged by the police early on Sunday.

"The police arrested Muhammad Waseem, brother of Qandeel Baloch, for killing his sister late on Saturday," Multan City police chief Azhar Akram told AFP.

"Waseem confessed to his crime, saying he killed his sister for honour after her recent objectionable videos, mostly posted on Facebook."

Pakistani police say fashion model Qandeel Baloch, who recently stirred controversy by posting pictures of herself with a Muslim cleric on social media, has been killed by her brother.

Police spokeswoman Nabila Ghazanfar says police were alerted to the killing Saturday and are investigating.

Baloch offended many conservatives by posting pictures of herself with Mufti Qavi, a prominent cleric.

She said the two of them enjoyed soft drinks and cigarettes together during the daylight hours in the holy month of Ramadan, when practicing Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.

Qavi denied the allegations, saying he only met with her to discuss the teachings of Islam.

Hundreds of Pakistani woman are murdered by family members each year in so-called honour killings, which are seen as punishment for violating conservative norms.

Qandeel Baloch’s selfies with Mufti Abdul Qavi go viral on social media

Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch continues to hog media limelight time and again for her antics.

Popular on social media, the controversial starlet has again made it to the headlines for taking a video and clicking selfies with the Mufti Abdul Qavi.

The model shared her new selfies and video with the scholar on her Facebook account, which went viral on the social media.

Mufti Abdul Qavi was quoted as saying in Pakistani media that the meeting took place on the request of the controversial model.

The model, however, gave a totally different version for their meeting, telling Pakistani media that the the meeting took place on his request as maulana (scholar) wanted to see her before the Eid moon.

The model is also seen wearing maulana’s Jinnah cap in the selfie.

Recently, the young model tried to approach Pakistan Tehri-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan during a rally to propose him for the marriage. But she was blocked by the party worker, hence she wasn’t able to reach Khan.
