Ranbir Kapoor, a thorough entertainer on the 70mm, saw his popularity chart rising since his debut film. Heartthrob and chocolate boy are tags that have come easily to him.

Yet, Ranbir Kapoor hasn’t been at the forefront when it comes to award functions.

It’s only now, after receiving the ‘Rockstar’ tag that he has performed for the first time at an award function. Looks like the film got him more than just accolades from critics and audiences alike; it also boosted his confidence.

After performing at this year’s Zee Cine awards, he is set to perform yet again, at the IIFA awards to be held later this week.

“Earlier, I didn’t have good songs to perform to. Also, I didn’t have enough confidence about performing on stage, in front of a huge audience,” Ranbir confesses although we think his screen performances are brimming with confidence.

So which songs will we see him performing to? “I’ll be performing to ‘Sada Haq’, ‘Tai Tai Phish’, and then there’s a little surprise,” he says with a grin.

There are speculations that Ranbir might take to the stage with papa Rishi Kapoor. Ranbir, though, is tight lipped and won’t give away the surprise. “Well, I hope he likes my performance so much that he comes and shakes a leg with me,” is all he will say.

One can expect his performance to be rocking, since Prabhu Deva is set to choreograph all the acts. Ranbir is all praise for this dancer-director-choreographer: “I stick to my view that he is one of the best dancers in the world. In fact, I’d say he is better than Michael Jackson, since he is ours. He’s India’s dancing star. And it’s just great to have him choreograph the performances this year.”

The IIFA awards will take place in Singapore this year and Ranbir is looking forward to visiting the place. He reveals, “I went to Singapore as a child, so it would be great to visit the place again. I hope I get to see some places in Singapore. Thanks to IIFA, we get to visit these exotic locations every year and have fun.”

While most people think of the IIFA ceremony as a mere award function or perhaps an opportunity to take Indian cinema global, there’s more to it, according to Ranbir. He explains, “In our industry, people hardly get the opportunity to meet each other. This is the chance that IIFA gives all of us to come together as a fraternity. It’s a great chance to bond with one another.” We can’t help but agree.

Now all that’s left to do is wait to see if this ‘rockstar’ rocks the IIFA stage. The IIFA awards will take place from June 7-9 in Singapore.
