Bollywood superstars Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor arrived in Dubai yesterday, a day ahead of their marketing blitzkrieg to promote the upcoming 'Satyagraha', along with film director Prakash Jha.

The stars arrived on separate flights, with Devgn arriving first at Terminal 3, around 11.30am, while Kapoor arrived at 3.35pm from Terminal 1.

Both the stars were picked up in a swanky Rolls Royce, before routed to the hotel they are staying at.

The stars will be meeting fans in Karama and Bur Dubai today, with a 5.30pm visit to Yas Sports International near the fish market and a visit to Malabar Gold and Diamonds in Meena Bazaar an hour later.

Just when you thought August couldn’t bring much more of Bollywood mayhem to Dubai, brace yourself for yet another star-studded onslaught, as Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgn arrive on these shores to promote yet another film.

Joining the celebrity duo is director Prakash Jha as they kick-start the promotional campaign for their upcoming ‘Satyagraha’, which releases on Thursday across UAE cinemas.

The trio will be meeting the media today (August 19) morning, followed by two fan events that could literally bring traffic to a standstill.

Breaking away from the traditional mall visits, organisers Dream Advertising and Ministry of Events are bringing the stars to the masses in two separate outings in the densely populated areas of Karama and Bur Dubai; brace yourself for the traffic.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, organiser Syed Shuja said: “We decided to offer fans a different experience from what we have previously brought to the city and arranged for two store visits that also gives fans a chance to meet and greet Kareena and Ajay.

“The first will be a 5.30pm visit at Yas Sports International in Karama, where five fans stand the chance to win personally autographed bats by Kareena, Ajay and Pakistani cricketer, Shahid Afridi.”

This visit will be followed by an even bigger setup in Meena Bazaar, the retail hub of Bur Dubai during a store visit to Malabar Gold at 6.30pm, a chain which has Kapoor as their brand ambassador.

“We have taken over an entire car park, directly under the Malabar Gold hoarding in Meena Bazaar, where a small stage will be set up for fans to interact with the stars,” added Shuja.

When quizzed about the traffic and chaos within the busy market area, Shuja added: “We are looking at a large turnout in both visits, especially the one in Meena Bazaar but considering the crowd will be divided between separate celebrity sessions, things should be manageable.”

However, when prompted further, Shuja did advise fans that are expecting to come see Kareena and Ajay live, opt for public transportation to avoid parking hassles and adding to the traffic in the populated areas.

This month alone, Dubai has been brought to a standstill with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone jetting into the city during Ramadan to break iftar with fans in the prelude to the record-breaking ‘Chennai Express’; Arjun Rampal donated care packages to labourers around the same week.

This was followed by last week’s visit of Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, who celebrated Eid in Dubai.

With so many stars descending onto the emirate in one month alone, are fans here in danger of celebrity fatigue?

Shuja doesn’t seem to think so, saying: “We have been in this business for the past two years now and we can safely say that Dubai is star crazy.

“Last year, we organised three Bollywood events within the same week, with ‘Barfi!’ and Ranbir Kapoor drawing in nearly 12,000 fans, followed by 5,000 showing up for ‘Raaz 3’ and another 7,000 for ‘Heroine’ during Kareena’s mall visit.”

Shuja added that, of course, no one drew in a crowd like Khan’s visit, with over 18,000 fans descending onto Arabian Centre.

He added: “We do expect a large turnout for Kareena and Ajay’s event too, with the actress really surprising us in the past with her star power with fans in Dubai.”

For those interested in visiting the Meena Bazaar event, Emirates 24|7 advises to either park in the Dubai Municipality parking near Al Rafa Police Station and walking the rest of the way, or hopping on to the abra if you are heading in from Deira.
