Sabyasachi to dress up Vidya Balan for Cannes red carpet

It’s one of the most prestigious international film festivals, yet it’s red carpet routines are sometimes more celebrated than the movies that are screened.

Media is often more obsessed about “who wore what and how”, rather than the movies.

So, in keeping with the tradition, ‘Dirty Picture’ star Vidya Balan is leaving no stone unturned to doll up and be glam on the Cannes red carpet.

In her maiden appearance on the French shores, Vidya will be styled in a saree by her favourite designer Sabyasachi.

Although there aren’t any details about what Sabyasachi will design for her Cannes wardrobe, we are sure it will pack in a few sarees.

Vidya, unlike Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who most often dresses in stunning western wear, will remain in her staple desi-look.

Ash, had in the past, received flak for her fashion faux pas on red carpet, but over the years she has perfected the pout, pose and style.

Last year, a visibly rounded Aishwarya had left fashion critics divided in her Abu-Jani sari and jacket ensemble.

Cannes Film Festival, in its 66th year, will also mark a special segment to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema.

Four Indian films will be screened out of competition – Monsoon Shootout, Dabba, Ugly and Bombay Talkies.

“It feels great. It's a big honour for me to be on the jury of the most celebrated film festival in the world,” the actress told the Indian media.

Vidya joins ‘Life of Pi’ director Ang Lee at the jury, which will be headed by Hollywood’s Steven Spielberg.

The other big names are Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Christophe Waltz, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, Scottish director Lynne Ramsay, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil and Romanian director Cristian Mungiu.

The jury will award the coveted Palme d'Or prize to one of 19 films in competition.

The festival runs from May 15 to 26 and will open with ‘The Great Gatsby’, which has Amitabh Bachchan in a cameo.
