Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and other celebrities will come together for an event to raise funds for Uttarakhand flood victims in India.

Star India, an entertainment channel, will organise the show and the proceeds will go to the victims of the horrifying mishap.

“The event is evidence that there is a strong desire in the community to help,'' Mr. Uday Shankar, CEO Star India, said. "The unflinching support of the stars is humbling and in turn will help us extend a helping hand to those in need. The film world's support also reinforces our belief in the power and reach of television, and its ability to be a force for good.''

Amitabh Bachchan will be joined by music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and writer-poet Prasoon Joshi to enthrall the audience at Star India's fund-raiser musical event on the August 15.

In a statement Bachchan wrote, "The noble initiative is an opportunity for the entire Hindi film industry to stand by the very people who have showered us with unconditional love and have made us who we are."

"We have come together for fellow men who suffered the agonising pain that this unprecedented calamity brought with itself," he continued.

Bachchan Sr. will be joined by Abhishek at the event for a performance that promises to be riveting and vibrant.

Bachchan will lend his voice to recite from Prasoon's poetry, set to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music during the performance, titled 'Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand', which is a joint initiative by Star India, Wizcraft, the Film & TV Producers Guild and the Hindi film fraternity.

The advertising revenue generated through the event will be donated to not-for-profit organisations working towards restoring normalcy in the hill-state.

Apart from this, actors Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit will be seen in a promotional video during the event regarding the same initiative to encourage people to help.

There are also confirmed reports that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will take part in the seven-hour long television show and perform to a medley of patriotic songs for the event.

Others who are likely to support the initiative include Lata Mangeshkar, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, Boman Irani, Mukesh Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurana and celebrities from television shows.

Stars from the television shows like 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara', 'Saraswatichandra', 'Savdhan India', 'Devon Ke Dev Mahadev' and 'India's Dancing Superstar' will also be the part of the initiative.

In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides in the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami.

As of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Uttarakhand government, more than 5,700 people were "presumed dead." This total included 934 local residents.
