An Indian expat in Sharjah has given voice to his love for his hometown through a YouTube video. The novel attempt, is also a tribute to the young man’s father, who worked for about five decades in Tata Steel.

Hailing from the model town of Jamshedpur in the Indian state of Jharkhand, Mahendra Kumar Kalindi, who has been working as a labourer in Sharjah for the last one-and-a-half years, has spent time, energy and money in producing the video which captures the pride, passion and dreams of the people of the steel city.

Titled ‘I love my Jamshedpur’, Kalindi has dedicated the video to his father Lakhi Kalindi, who was an employee of Tata Steel for about 50 years.

While he dreams of making a movie about his hometown one day, he cannot wait to present the video to Ratan Tata – who was chairman of Tata Group until 2012 and now continues as Chairman of the Group’s charitable trusts.

Kalindi leaves no stone unturned in his pursuit to reach the scion of Tata Steel. His attempt at sending a copy to Ratan Tata was unsuccessful due to bureaucratic issues, he claims.

Now, he regularly contacts media houses and officials at the Group to help him meet the boss, so he can present him with his video.

Asked why he had to leave his hometown, Kalindi replies that he boarded the flight to the UAE with the aim of making money so he can make a movie about Jamshedpur.

“But I earn only Dh1,000 a month. I also have to repay the money I borrowed to make the album. However, I will go back and continue my hard work to make my dream movie,” says the confident youngster.

The music video aptly ends with a note ‘To be continued…’
