They waited 42 years, and when the prestigious title of the Miss Universe finally came their way, it wasn't without drama.

Event host Steve Harvey had read out the wrong winner's name, crowning Miss Columbia first Ariadna Gutierrez, before admitting the goof-up, and crowning Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the Miss Universe 2015.

The Philippine community in the UAE are however happy to look at the brighter side.

Melany Demetillo-Reyes of Dubai said, "We were happy that Philippines got to take home the crown, it was a human mistake what can you we do about it?

"I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for Miss Colombia."

Another Filipino resident Harriet Santos added, "Bottom line is we have the crown. Let's celebrate!"

The long wait to the beauty title hasn't bothered them. "Not really, like every year high hopes is there even if our representative didn't win the past years its fine. We just patiently wait and hope every year," added Melany.

"What's most important is now she won and we are celebrating as a country."

Cleo Eleazar from Ras Al Khaimah is genuinely happy but saddened by the faux pas. "I feel bad for both the girls, their moment in history is tainted by this faux pas.

"It's a great celebrations for the Philippines, but everyone will remember this moment for the goof-up.

"As a nationality, we in the Philippines feel embarrassed to see the crown being taken away from one girl and given it to our girl.

"The issue is trending on social media, and it's unfortunate that our win is being overshadowed."
