Universal is prepping for the start of shooting ‘Steve Jobs’ in late January in the San Francisco Bay Area and has put out a casting call for vintage tech nerds. No Mark Zuckerberg-style hoodie wearers or ‘Silicon Valley’ types need apply, though –‘Steve Jobs’ is set at the dawn of the Apple era in the 1980s and 1990s. Both men and women with fluffy '80s hairstyles are in demand as extras for the period movie.

Beau Bonneau Casting is seeking locals for paid extra work for the film, which covers three of Jobs' product launches. Background actors will portray cafe patrons, audience, press, engineers, marketing teams, interns and technicians.

"Production's strongest need is for Men 18-40s with flexible schedules and comb-able length hair and/or men willing to grow their hair, facial hair, sideburns to match 80s-90s time periods," the notice said. "Women should have natural hair colours, no chunky highlights or ultra-modern styles. Overall for men and women, curls, waves and volume are a plus. Production will provide haircuts as needed."

Michael Fassbender is on board to play the lead with ‘Inherent Vice’ actress Katherine Waterston as Jobs' first wife Chrisann Brennan and Seth Rogen portraying Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Danny Boyle will direct from Aaron Sorkin's script, based on Walter Isaacson's biography. Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady are producing.

Universal picked up "Jobs" out of turnaround last month after Sony let it go.
