Women Corp leads Bollywood’s Salman Khan and Shah Rukh

It does seem that women are bound to take the center stage this year. Several films slated for release this year will not have much for the men to do and most actors here are happy playing second fiddle to women.

Madhuri Dixit

Despite ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ being billed as a male-oriented film about two skirt-chasing men, the women took the accolades towards the end and turned out to be heroes. One of the women in question Madhuri Dixit gets another chance soon with the Anubhav Sinha produced film ‘Gulaab Gang’. The Soumik Sen directed film has Madhuri Dixit playing the hero while Juhi Chawla is content playing the villain and then the men have nothing much to do in the film. Madhuri’s character in the film is loosely based on the leader of the real Gulab Gang.

Kangna Ranaut

The Kangna Ranaut starrer film ‘Queen’ is also a woman oriented subject. The said film has Kangna in the lead along with Rajkumar Rao. But then the film is about Kangna who plays the character of Rani. She plays a girl who goes abroad in search of her husband. The film directed by Vikas Bahl has made a strong impact with its trailer.

Following ‘Queen’, Kangna has yet another lead role in the film ‘Revolver Rani’ directed by Sai Kabir. Paired opposite Kangna is the actor Vir Das. Kangna’s character in the film is the central one and is said to be loosely inspired by the life of politician Mayawati.

Anushka Sharma

Director Navdeep Singh’s ‘NH 10’ has Anushka Sharma playing both producer and the lead heroine as she had to slash her price for the film. Paired opposite Anushka is the Shaitan actor Neil Bhoopalam who also played the role of the Prime Minister in the TV series ‘24’.  Anushka replaced Frieda Pinto to play the lead in the film.

Deepika Padukone

Homi Adjania’s third film ‘Finding Fenny Fernandez’ after ‘Being Cyrus’ and ‘Cocktail’ may either have Arjun Kapoor or some other actor, but then it really does not mind, because the hero of the film will be the Rs 500 crore actress Deepika Padukone who has now entrenched herself on the top of the heap in Bollywood.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra’s ode to Mary Kom has been eponymously named after the boxer and is another real life inspired film which is a story of a boxer who goes on to bear children and makes a comeback to win an Olympic medal. The film is being directed by Omung Kumar for producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sonam Kapoor

‘Bewakoofiyan’ is a film starring Sonam kapoor and which has the Vicky Donor hero Ayushmann Khurrana playing the male lead in the film. Ayushmann is fairly junior to Sonam and hence she will be the Queen Bee in the film. Add to the fact that another woman Nupur Asthana directs the film -  and this one is a woman oriented subject.

Sonam also has the remake of Khubsoorat produced by her sister Rhea and directed by Shashanka Ghosh to look forward to. This is a film where she reprises a role essayed by the effervescent Rekha in the original.

Rekha

How can Rekha be written off? Rekha is an actress in Hindi cinema who has played innumerable lead roles in films which she has spearheaded and she is back in Indra Kumar’s film ‘Super Nani’. Sharman Joshi and Randhir Kapoor will also be seen in the film where Randhir ill-treats his wife along with his children only to be taught a lesson by his grandson and the ‘Super Nani’. The film is based on the Gujarati Play Baa Ae Maari Boundary!

Vidya Balan

‘Bobby Jasoos’ has Vidya Balan essaying the title role where young actor Ali Fazal gets a chance to play lead opposite her in the film being produced by Dia Mirza and directed by Samar Shaikh.
