Police say a bus has crashed from a bridge into a dry riverbed in northwestern India killing at least 26 students and teachers.
Another 34 passengers were injured, 10 of them seriously.
Superintendent of police Vikas Kumar said the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle which smashed through bridge railings.
The victims were from a teachers’ training college and were returning to Khanpur, a town in Rajasthan state, after visiting a Hindu pilgrimage center in Uttarakhand state.
Accidents occur frequently on roads in India and are often blamed on reckless driving, aging vehicles and overloading.
