Cannes 2016: Sonam Kapoor looks stunning in dramatic gown

All eyes were on Bollywood's ultimate stylista Sonam Kapoor as she walks down the Cannes red carpet, and she's pretty much killed it.

When it comes to Bollywood's tryst with Cannes fashion, two names shine heads and heels over the rest - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. Ash is a veteran, pulling off looks that are classic.

But Sonam is known more for her avant garde style which ranges from futurist to marrying the West and East with flair.

During her first day, Kapoor basically shut down the whole Cannes red carpet with her traffic stopping look in Ralph and Russo.

Her white saree-inspired haute couture gown made her look like a White Swan Queen as she posed for photographers at the screening of the film Mal De Pierres.

Th silk crepe dress had a long train with embroidered silver threadwork, silver bullion, beads and crystals.

The design is reminiscent of Ralph & Russo's Spring/Summer 2016 collection, but with the cape running over one shoulder and a counter-train attached to the waist, this particular piece may have been custom-made.

The 30-year-old slayed hearts in this grand, dramatic and gorgeous gown - three things needed for the extra drama in a Cannes gown.

The Indian actress kept it on trend with the shoulder cut out and rounded her look with a choker.

Styled by sister Rhea Kapoor, Sonam let the dress do all the talking, keeping accessories to a bare minimum with stud earrings and white-rock ring.

For her make-up, the gold/wheatish highlights at the edges of the kohled-eyes accentuated the drama of the overall look, a simple nude pink lip colour acted as a balance, and the no-nonsense straight hair gave her an aura of sophisticated severity.

The poise, confidence, looks, body language - name it and Sonam aced it like a pro at the event.

Earlier in the day, Sonam was seen in a futuristic black-and-blue sari from Rimzim Dadu.

The designer made waves this year, at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2016 by presenting a collection that was strong in surfaces and material exploration.

Her fuchsia lips, neatly tied bun and a striking black collar necklace complimented her look for the press interaction on Sunday.
