The city is heading for not one, but two new Guinness World Records as Dubai shifts gear for the Grand Parade on November 28.

As part of the Dubai Motor Festival, which will run from November 19 until December 6, the annual Grand Parade will accelerate to the frontline with a convoy of over 500 classic or unique vehicles (both cars and bikes) that will be led by the Dubai Police’s fleet of supercars.

Organisers, however, have decided to capture this moment on camera by attempting to break the Guinness World Record of the ‘Longest Selfie’ chain (yes, it’s a thing) that was set in Los Angeles on October 14.

The current record of selfie relay chain comprises 283 people and was achieved by Samsung Electronics America and Habitat for Humanity; Dubai plans to break that record with 300-plus people.

Thomas de Oliveira, director, exhibitions, Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) said: “We will line up the participants and have two people take a selfie; then one of those two people will pose with another for the selfie and this chain will continue until we break the record.”

Participating drivers of the Grand Parade will be contacted by organisers to volunteer for the selfie record attempt.

The second record breaking attempt on the sidelines of the Grand Parade will be a motorcade of the most number of car brands together.

The second edition of the Dubai Motor Festival will also feature Supercar Taxis – including the Ferrari, Lamborghini Rolls Royce and Bentley – that will offer free one-way rides within the emirate to commuters across three weekends.

There will also be a Motor Village erected on the same day of the parade, which will feature an ‘Inspired Light by Infiniti QX70S’ event, which organisers say will be the first time a ‘painting by light’ show will be performed exclusively by cars.

Also featured at the village will be the Red Bull Car Park Drift Final where participants will compete for the ‘King of Drift’ title.
