The Ministry of Environment and Water closed a crusher in the emirate of Fujairah after the management ignored the warnings the ministry had issued it earlier to take necessary measures to stop polluting the air.
The crusher was operating violating the rules regulating the activities of quarries and crushers, and the ministry closed the crusher primarily for seven days, renewable for another three months giving time for the crusher to fall in line.
The ministry's inspectors had visited the crusher site earlier and found that there was heavy emission of dust from the plant and the loading vehicles. The inspectors made their observations and asked the management to take necessary precautions as not to cause air pollution.
The instructions went unheeded and the ministry handed out a decision closing the crusher with immediate effect.
