Girl mistakenly had piles instead of tonsil surgery

A Saudi girl who was admitted to hospital for tonsils operation woke up after the surgery only to be shocked to find out that she had a hemorrhoids operation.

When the father visited his daughter, in her 20s, at the private hospital in the southern town of Subayya, his delight quickly turned into fury and he went straight to health authorities to complain about the “serious medical error”, the Saudi Arabic language daily 'Al Riyadh' said.

It quoted health department director Owjan Al Naami as saying they were still investigating this “strange” case and that the hospital could be shut down.

“Her father said he was shocked when he learned that his daughter had a piles surgery instead of tonsillectomy,” the paper said, adding that the doctor and his team who were involved in the surgery have already been suspended.
