Canadian health officers say 450 Tamil asylum seekers from Sri Lanka are in good condition despite three months at sea in the belly of a cargo ship.

The ship docked Friday near British ColumbiaÕs capital of Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Canadian Border Services executive director Rob Johnston says the group appear to have been well fed.

He said there were 350 men, 50 women, and 50 children.

Johnston says 27 were treated for minor ailments but only six have been kept in hospital for further treatment.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said Saturday the vessel had been extensively renovated to accommodate the group.

The 450 would-be immigrants are being transferred to local prisons while they are interviewed and assessed.
